Cone Health Launches New Company to Optimize Behavioral Health Staffing and Capture Enhanced Reimbursements.

Cone Health Ventures is excited to announce the formation of Behavioral Health Acuity Index Systems, LLC (“BHAIS”). This initiative is the culmination of over 3 years of collaboration and data sharing with ten of the leading behavioral health hospitals in the U.S. to create algorithms to predict the acuity level of an inpatient behavioral health unit. The software to be commercialized by BHAIS will allow behavioral health hospitals to achieve better outcomes, improve patient and staff safety and capture enhanced reimbursement for patients in need of elevated care.

The BHAIS platform is currently being piloted at Pine Rest Mental Health and Cone Health Behavioral Health with a full commercial launch slated for early 2022. The platform integrates with any EMR and captures nurse inputs to create actionable analytics pertaining patient acuity and the likelihood a unit will need extra staffing in the next 24 hours. BHAIS and Cone Health Ventures will collaborate proactively to launch and scale this technology into the market so behavioral health organizations and their patients across the country can enjoy the clinical and financial benefits this solution provides.

Cone Health Ventures identifies entrepreneurial companies with solutions that address the greatest needs and top strategic aims of Cone Health. By negotiating win-win agreements to align the interests of all parties, Cone Health Ventures accelerates commercialization into the broader healthcare market to create value for the companies, Cone Health, and our patients.

The Behavioral Health Acuity Index System is an electronic clinical and management support tool, similar those used to assess medical and surgical patient acuity, that helps optimize staffing and inpatient psychiatric bed utilization, while maintaining patient and provider safety and helping to improve the quality of behavioral health care in a cost-effective manner.
